Elisha Applewhite Died Aug 13 1865 Aged about 35 years G.E.L. son of Elisha & Matilda Applewhite Jun 15 1865 Oct 18 1882 Thomas son of Elisha & Matilda Applewhite Jun 23 1854 Aug 1872 Henry son of Elisha & Matilda Applewhite Jul 25 1853 Aug 1874 Jesse son of Elisha & Matilda Applewhite Jul 27 1859 Aug 1862 Mary daughter of Elisha & Matilda Applewhite Jul 10 1862 Aug 1869 Further notes: Frank Thompson wrote: I think this Elisha Applewhite may very well have been the son of Robert Applewhite (b. about 1809 and died at the hands of Braswell Thomas, a free Negro in Johnston Co., NC Feb 7, 1844). Think we had an earlier conversation about him. If so, this family seems prone to a violent end. Robert was the son of Elisha, who was the son of John Applewhite of Wayne County. I have his name as Elisha Daniel Applewhite (though tombstone omits the Daniel) b 1830 and died Aug 13 1865. He was married to Sarah Matilda Vail, dau of Benners Vail and Susan Alford. They had 4 children: Henry, Thomas, Jesse and George E.L. Applewhite. Elisha Daniel Applewhite's only brother was Bartley Deans Applewhite who married Sara Matilda's sister Mary Ann Vail. Most of this Bartley Deans Applewhite family ended up in Bladen Co. and the Wilmington, NC area.
