Barnabas S. King enlisted in New Hanover County in March 30, 1863 as a Private
and was in F Company, 10 Regiment, State Troops, when he was captured and
spent his last days in Elmira Prison where he died February 24, 1865 of Small Pox.
Barnabas married Emily Rhodes, daughter of Ingram and Sarah Cox Rhodes of
the Grantham area of Wayne County. Rhodes Friends Meeting was named for
Ingram Rhodes. There is an estate record for Barnabas from Johnston County, NC in 1894.

made the fowling appropriations in severlty
Lot No 1 is assigned to Zilphia Royall & wife of Lee Royall and
bound as fowls. (the handwriting changes here) Beginning at a
stake in the Goldsboro Road and runs with said last Road to a
Pessimon Tree in Stephen Manns line. Thence with said line N 11 W
39 poles to a Black gum. Thence S 87 ˝ E 91 ˝ poles to a stake in
R Granthams line. Thence with said line S 7 E 12 4/5 poles to the
beginning containing 11 ˝ acres. Also one other tract beginning
at a stake in Stephen Massin line runs N 11 W 56 poles to a
stake. Thence S 81 W 37 poles to a stake on the run of a small
branch. Thence up said branch to a Black gum Morris corner.
Thence north said line W 81 E 28 poles to the beginning
containing 11 ˝ acres valued at $95.00
Lot No 2 is assigned to BF King and bound as follow. Beginning
at a stake in R Granthams line and runs N 87 ˝ E 91 ˝ poles to a
black gun Stephens Morris corner. Thence S 81 E 117 poles to a
stake. Thence N 11 W 43 ˝ poles to a stake. Thence S 87 ˝ E 212 ˝
poles to a stake in Grantham line. Thence S 7 E 190 1/2 pols to
the beginning containing 33 acres valued at $95.00
Lot No 3 is assigned to Mary Holloman wife of Josiah Holloman and
bound as follows. Beginning at a stake in R Granthams line and
runs S 7 E 20 ˝ pols to a stake. Thence N 87 ˝ W 212 ˝ poles to a
stake. Thence N 11 W 12 ˝ poles to a stake. Thence S 81 W 37
poles to a black gum on the run of a small branch. Thence down
said branch to a stake. Thence S 87 ˝ E 282 poles to the
beginning containing 31 acres valued at $95.00
Lot No 4 is assigned to CR King wife of Wm King and bound as
follows. Beginning at a stake in R Grantham line and runs S 7 E
15 poles to a stake. Thence N 87 W 282 poles to a stake in a
branch. Thence down said branch to Lucy branch. Thence ref said
branch to a stake. Thence S 87 E 266 ˝ poles to the beginning
containing 27 acres valued at $81.00
Lot No 5 is assigned to Susan A Rose wife of JW Rose and bound
as follows. Beginning at a stake in R Grantham line and runs S 7
E 22 poles to a stake. Thence N 87 ˝ W 266 ˝ poles to a Stake in
Lucy Branch. Thence up said branch to a stake. Thence S 87 E 241
poles to the beginning containing 34 acres valued at $102.00
Lot No 6 is assigned to the Heirs of Elizabeth Moore Dec and
bound as follows. Beginning at a stake in R Grathams line and
runs with said line S 7 E 25 3/10 poles to a stake. Thence N 87 W
241 poles to a stake on the run of Lucy branch. Thence up said
branch to a maple. Thence N 25 ˝ E 16 ˝ poles to a Pine stump
John Duns corner. Thence with Said Duns line S 87 E 195 poles to
the beginning containing 34 acres valued at $102.00
Lot No 5 pays to Lot No 4 - $7.00
Lot No 6 pays to Lot No 4 - $7.00
Which makes the Division equal all of which respectfully

In the name of God Amen I Bryan King being of sound mind & perfect
memory blessed be God for his mercies do this day in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty five make & ordain this my
last Will & Testament in manner following that is to say
1st I give my soul to God
2nd I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Polly King all the property
that she brought here when I married her together with my Negro boy
Irvin & one hundred & fifty Dollars as cash she is to have sd boy during
of her lifetime & if the sd boy Irvin should be the longest liver that
he shall be sold & equally divided between my two sons Barney & Henry
3rd I give to my daughter Clarisey my Negro woman Priss one hundred &
fifty dollars in cash one bed & its furniture & one stand of curtains
4th I give my daughter Sally my Negro woman Lucy one hundred & fifty
dollars in cash one bed & its furniture & one stand of curtains
5th I give & bequeath to my son Barney my Negro woman Rachel. I also
give to my son Henry my Negro boy Ned. I also give to my two sons the
land whereon I now live to be divided so as to give Barney fifty acres
more than Henry but Henry is to have the house lot beginning at the
mouth of the Branch at the Swamp & runs with a due course to the back
line next to Ed Bradshaw I have all my perishable estate to be sold &
after paying my debts & expenses the proceeds to be equally divided
between my four children Clarisey Barney Sally & Henry
And if the crop should be planted before my decease it is my desire that
all should continue together to finish the crop & if it is the wish of
Polly to brake up house keeping then this crop to be sold & equally
divided between Polly & the four children and if she continues to keep
the children together for them to enjoy all they make
I also wish for Arch to be sold by my Executors to the best advantages
& the money distributed as above named
I also nominate my friend J.L. Clifton to be my executor to this my last
will & testament

us who are witnesses this 22nd of March 1835

Sessions Nov Term 1837 } Ordered that William Ashford Benj Hargrove
and Henry Stevens be appointed a committee to settle the estate of Bryant
King dec'd with J.L. Clifton as Executor of sd estate & make report to
